POSITION: Assistant Planner

EMPLOYER: City of Bonney Lake, WA

COMPENSATION: HIRING RANGE: $4,240 - $4,909 (Salary Range $4,240-$5,579) per month plus an excellent benefit package. This is a Full Time, FLSA Non-Exempt, Union Represented position.

DESCRIPTION: The City is seeking a seasoned planner with experience in current planning and permitting. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the development process and is committed to the highest level of customer service and satisfaction and working as part of a team.

The Assistant Planner performs a variety of routine and complex technical and professional work in the current and/or long range planning of the city and the development and implementation of land use and related policies and regulations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban or regional planning, landscape architecture, or a closely related field; and Some professional work experience in a related professional capacity. Licensing and Certifications: Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to obtain one within six months of hire. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement; working knowledge of modern land use planning principles, practices, programs and processes; working knowledge of Personal Computers; Skill in writing staff reports; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public; Ability to read and interpret complex land use drawings and plans; Ability to understand and to carry out oral and written instructions and to do work independently in the performance of regularly assigned duties; Ability to read, understand, monitor and enforce local, state, and federal regulations applicable to land use development; Ability to read and understand tax assessor’s maps and records; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and departments, the public, the development community, and members of various boards and commissions.
